# Hover > Hover is a free, open-source desktop app (MIT) for Windows, Linux and macOS (the Mac app is new and not notarized yet). Written in Rust, it turns the top centre of your screen into a notch: at rest a slim black island showing your AI coding agents and quotas, and on hover a small 3D office where Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Claude Code and Kiro each work as a bot at a desk, in the folder you chose. You give tasks to the agent CLIs you already have, by typing or by speaking, approve risky steps in the notch, and keep every session encrypted on your own machine. No account, no server, no analytics. Every page has a Markdown twin: the landing page is https://tryhover.co/index.html.md, the whole docs page is https://tryhover.co/docs.md, and each docs section is https://tryhover.co/docs/
.md (`/docs/install` becomes `/docs/install.md`). Fetch those for clean Markdown without site chrome. Everything in one file: https://tryhover.co/llms-full.txt ## Start here - [Hover overview](https://tryhover.co/index.html.md): What Hover is, its features, the agents it supports, privacy, and where to download it for every platform. - [Install](https://tryhover.co/docs/install.md): Download and install Hover on Windows (installer) or Linux (.deb or tarball), and what works on each system, Mac included. - [Your first task](https://tryhover.co/docs/first-task.md): Open the office, pick an agent and a folder, and send a task. - [Agents](https://tryhover.co/docs/agents.md): How Hover runs Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Claude Code and Kiro, sign-in checks and idle time. - [Tool access](https://tryhover.co/docs/access.md): The four access modes (Full, Ask first, Ask always, Read only) and per-tool behaviour. - [Voice](https://tryhover.co/docs/voice.md): Press Ctrl+Alt+Space, say a task, press it again. Speech becomes text on your computer (Phonon) or through Groq, and the task starts as a new chat. ## Getting started - [Introduction](https://tryhover.co/docs/intro.md): What Hover is: a notch at the top of your screen that opens into a 3D office where your AI coding agents work. - [Install](https://tryhover.co/docs/install.md): Download and install Hover on Windows (installer) or Linux (.deb or tarball), and what works on each system, Mac included. - [Hover on macOS](https://tryhover.co/docs/macos.md): The Mac app: how to install it (a .dmg for Apple silicon or Intel), what differs on a Mac (notch, menu bar, Apple's speech), the Mac-only features, and the permissions it asks for. - [Your first task](https://tryhover.co/docs/first-task.md): Open the office, pick an agent and a folder, and send a task. ## Using Hover - [The notch](https://tryhover.co/docs/notch.md): What the resting island shows, and how to open and fold the office. - [The Agent office](https://tryhover.co/docs/office.md): The 3D office: one bot per session, the wall board, the TV, the bookshelf and the menu. - [The desk card](https://tryhover.co/docs/desk-card.md): Click a desk to see what its agent is doing and open its terminal, files, diff, agents, pull requests, browser and screen. - [Approvals](https://tryhover.co/docs/approvals.md): How an agent asks before acting, and what Allow, Trust and Deny do. - [Answers](https://tryhover.co/docs/answers.md): How agent answers render: Markdown, tables, code, diffs and Mermaid flowcharts, plus replying, queueing and pausing a run. - [Checkpoints](https://tryhover.co/docs/checkpoints.md): Restore your files and the chat to an earlier answer, or try a message again, without touching your project's Git. - [Voice](https://tryhover.co/docs/voice.md): Press Ctrl+Alt+Space, say a task, press it again. Speech becomes text on your computer (Phonon) or through Groq, and the task starts as a new chat. - [Sessions & history](https://tryhover.co/docs/history.md): Sessions are kept, encrypted, until you delete them; reply to one to resume it. - [AI quotas](https://tryhover.co/docs/quotas.md): Usage rings for Claude Code, Cursor, Kiro and Codex, and where each number comes from. - [Keyboard](https://tryhover.co/docs/keyboard.md): Every keyboard shortcut: Alt+N, the voice shortcut, Esc, Enter, Shift+Enter and zoom. ## Configure - [Agents](https://tryhover.co/docs/agents.md): How Hover runs Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Claude Code and Kiro, sign-in checks and idle time. - [Tool access](https://tryhover.co/docs/access.md): The four access modes (Full, Ask first, Ask always, Read only) and per-tool behaviour. - [Sandbox](https://tryhover.co/docs/sandbox.md): On a Mac and Linux, agents run inside Anthropic's sandbox-runtime: they write only to their folders and reach only the hosts they need. - [Projects](https://tryhover.co/docs/projects.md): The folders voice may work in, the other names you call them by, and each folder's own tool access. - [Settings](https://tryhover.co/docs/settings.md): What's in Settings: General, Integrations, Voice, Projects, and per-agent model, effort, access and idle time. - [Themes](https://tryhover.co/docs/themes.md): Hover light or dark, the system's, or any VS Code theme installed in VS Code, Cursor, Kiro or Windsurf. ## Reference - [Privacy & data](https://tryhover.co/docs/privacy.md): Where data lives, how sessions and API keys are encrypted (AES-GCM, DPAPI / Secret Service), and what goes online. - [Build from source](https://tryhover.co/docs/build.md): Build the app on Windows, Linux and macOS, and how releases are put together. - [How it works](https://tryhover.co/docs/architecture.md): Architecture: a Rust and Slint app, one click-through window, focus handling, agents over ACP, and a GPU-drawn office. - [Troubleshooting](https://tryhover.co/docs/troubleshooting.md): Fixes for greyed-out agents, quota errors, slow OpenCode starts, a notch that won't open, and voice problems. - [FAQ](https://tryhover.co/docs/faq.md): macOS availability, undo, cost, API keys, file access outside the folder, upgrading from 2.x, and Wayland. ## Optional - [Full docs in one page](https://tryhover.co/docs.md): All of the sections above, in order. - [Source code](https://github.com/4regab/Hover): The Hover app (MIT), with its issues and releases. - [Releases](https://github.com/4regab/Hover/releases): Builds and release notes for Windows and Linux. The Mac app is built from source: see [Hover on macOS](https://tryhover.co/docs/macos.md).
